Music writer and photographer Ryan Snyder captured some highlights of Snarky Puppy’s set at the John Coltrane International Jazz & Blues Festival in High Point on Sunday.
Prior to Snarky Puppy’s set, bandleader Michael League made remarks encouraging high school and middle school students from Greensboro and High Point who won musical instruments through an essay contest.
Lalah Hathaway, who headlined the festival and shared a Grammy with Snarky Puppy in 2014 for Best R&B Performance, joined the band to perform a cover of Herbie Hancock’s “Come Running to Me.” Later, a surprise guest — blues guitarist Eric Gales — helped Snarky Puppy close its set.
