913 Whiskey Bar on Chapman Street announced on Facebook yesterday that it is now open, after an initial opening target of mid September. Today, the bar and kitchen posted its menu online, which includes flatbreads and several grilled cheese options.
The annual North Carolina Craft Brewers Conference is in Greensboro yesterday and today at the Proximity Hotel. The sessions span everything from wood barrel aging and the “economics of draft beer quality” to a legislative issues panel. Chances are you aren’t going, but you can read about it in our Barstool column in next week’s paper!
Foothills Brewing releases an IPA of the Month, and each one comes with a custom-designed label. The 2014 theme, pin-up girls, will be replaced by dogs in 2015, an idea I can really get behind.
Foothills is taking submissions, and the rules were posted here today.
I don’t have a pup of my own, but I nominate Charlie the Corgi, a Winston-Salem beaut who is famous on Instagram.
Speaking of dogs and beers, Small Batch (also in Winston-Salem) recently created a brew called Mr. Mizzle’s Magical Elixir Double IPA, named after owner Tim Walker’s dog. (When I mentioned this to the Foothills folks last month they laughed and hinted they had something dog-themed in the works).
There is plenty of other Triad booze industry news, including the first “Pour & Tour” hosted by the Greensboro Science Center tomorrow, which will also include “heavy hors d’ oeuvres, fun games and activities, live entertainment and up-close animal viewing.”
I just can’t get over that cat and dinosaur poking out of the O’s in the logo.
And this Saturday, Small Batch Beer Co. celebrates its one-year anniversary with an Imperial Limonhead IPA bottle (the brewery’s first bottling — everything is made in small batches and sold on draft on site).
