Greensboro’s most unique Christmas tradition was a grassroots effort by the Sunset Hills neighborhood that began with a few lighted Christmas balls lofted high in the trees, and in just a couple decades has bloomed into a signature experience.

TCB contributor David Bartenfield shot this footage with a low-flying drone — a tricky business considering the balls are hoisted into the trees by a network lines and cables and electrical wire. Also it was at night.

There is nothing quite like a stroll beneath the balls on a crisp December night, but this footage is as close an approximation of the experience one can get.
