• Greensboro City Council meets in Council Chambers in the Melvin Municipal Office Building, located at 300 W. Washington St., at 5 p.m. The agenda includes a proposed memorandum of understanding between the city and the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro on the Steven B. Tanger Center for Performing Arts.
• News & Record Editorial Editor Allen Johnson and John Thompson co-pilot a discussion about community housing discrimination and white flight at the Kirkland Room in the Elliot University Center on the campus of UNCG from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
• Poet Elizabeth Alexander, who spoke at President Obama’s 2009 inauguration, gives the Bryan Series lecture at War Memorial Auditorium in Greensboro at 7:30 p.m.
• Surfer Blood, Wake Up, Time Machine Drive-By and Space Bear play the Blind Tiger in Greensboro while Ziggy’s in Winston-Salem hosts “kamikaze karaoke” and a corn-hole tournament. Matty Sheets takes another tack altogether with his regular open mic at New York Pizza in Greensboro.
