Jason Walser, a candidate in the crowded Republican primary for the 13th Congressional District, has come out in opposition to HB 2, the law passed in special session by the General Assembly that overturned Charlotte’s ordinance providing that transgender people can use the bathrooms of their preference.
“I have, today, come out in opposition to the way the state handled HB 2, and have also shared my campaign theme of changing the tone in DC, and in the Republican Party,” Walser said in an email to Triad City Beat on March 30.
Walser said he spent March 29 meeting with people in High Point preparing for the furniture market, adding, “To say that HB 2 has been bad for them is an understatement.”
Walser lives in Salisbury, and recently served as executive director of a regional land conservancy. He is currently working on an economic-revitalization project in a depressed neighborhood in Salisbury.
“I am a pragmatist,” Walser said in a statement to Triad City Beat. “A realist. A truth-telling outsider who hopes to bring about a change in dialogue. I love people — all people. I love this country. I intend to message the best of what we are collectively about throughout this campaign. We are a great nation already, and I want to help ensure that my teenage children get to experience a country and a quality of life at least as good as we have known.”
