Maybe you’ve heard… At last weekend’s convention for the Association of Alternative Newsmedia, Jordan Green was awarded Second Place for his Citizen Green Column in the Best Political Columns category for papers with fewer than 45,000 print run. It’s the first journalism award for TCB. And it’s a big one.

These are the winning columns: I, II, III.

Interesting that we were beaten by the East Bay Express, a fantastic West Coast alt, and that we beat the Gambit, where I got my start in this business, and the Louisville Eccentric Observer, Jordan’s hometown alt.

I don’t have to say how proud I am of Jordan, with whom I’ve been working since 2005. But I do want to say that this is the first national altweekly award for journalism ever won in the Triad. (A Triad paper has placed in the design and layout categories, both times for issues assembled under my editorship, but this is different)

It’s a huge deal because we are the newest paper in the AAN — we got accepted last year and this is our first year of eligibility. And we are the second-smallest — that honor goes to my friend Jimmy Boegle at the Coachella Valley Independent.

We call it “punching above our weight class.” And there’s plenty more to come.
