Rise and shine, readers, and happy hump day!

Students and faculty at UNCG are planning a walkout and rally today at 1 p.m. outside of the Elliott University Center (main campus building).

“Our demands are simple: Expand education, not administration. Cut our debt, not our budget!” a Facebook page for the event says. [Triad City Beat will cover the action, so stay posted.]

In case you missed it, here’s a quick round up of some brief news items from yesterday:

  • Winston-Salem State announced that Health & Sciences Dean Peggy Valentine was appointed to a national advisory committee by the US secretary of health & human services.
  • Greensboro Fire Capt. Sterling Suddarth was released from Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem yesterday. Suddarth is the last of the firefighters injured in a massive blaze on South Elm Street on Jan. 30 to leave the hospital, the department said.
  • Only four schools in the state were named to a national “State School of Character” list, and all four are in Guilford County, according to Guilford County Schools.

Check back here at 4 p.m. for a look at what’s happening tonight!
