3.High Point
We’re using college football as our guide in this week’s Triad Power Ranking, which means that once again High Point is at a distinct disadvantage. The city’s biggest college, High Point University, has yet to build a football program, though if the financial backing were to show up we don’t doubt they could get a team on the field by next season.
2. Winston-Salem
Here’s where it gets tricky. Winston-Salem is home to the Triad’s most big-name football program in Wake Forest, but the Demon Deacons are not that good this year, holding down last place in the ACC Atlantic Division with a 2-3 record. The Winston-Salem State Rams are solid, good enough to rank second in the CIAA at 3-1. The Deacs have No. 1-ranked Florida State this weekend, while the Rams face Chowan.
1. Greensboro
The Gate City scrambles to First Place this week because of the NC A&T University Aggies, who stand atop the MEAC at 4-1 after a three-win streak in September. Guilford College also has a football team, the Fighting Quakers, who three weeks into their ODAC season are undefeated. Greensboro College is in second place in the USA South with a record of 1-2. The Aggies play South Carolina at home on Sunday, while the Fighting Quakers take on Washington and Lee University at home. Greensboro College is at Huntingdon.
