by Kelly Fahey I’ll start my first unsolicited endorsement by saying that I helped plan this event. And you should definitely go.

WUAG’s 50th Fest on Monday will likely inject some much-needed excitement into the slow-paced summers that engulf the area around UNCG. It will also help to draw attention to WUAG, which, let’s be honest, has seen better days. Funding has been cut, Jack Bonney is gone, interest is at a low ebb.But the station is still solid. Another disclosure: I work there.

For the Golden Anniversary of WUAG, we enlisted CFBG, Elsewhere, Design Archives and the Coraddi to hawk their goods. And we stocked the music lineup with bands that have strong connections to the city, the university and the station.

Greensboro post-rock duo the Bronzed Chorus will headline the show. Jenny Besetzt got its start in the Triad before moving to the Triangle. Breathers, of Atlanta, features Greensboro’s Lee Gunselman, whose former band Casual Curious was a fixture in WUAG shows of years past.

As if anyone needed more enticement, there will be food trucks. And the whole thing takes place in Glenwood, a neighborhood that could use a good street festival.
