This week’s cover story, about legendary Esquire editor Harold Hayes, relied heavily on work done by his son Thomas, who made a documentary from his father’s papers called Smiling Through the Apocalypse. I saw it a couple years ago, but it’s getting its New York release on Sept. 12. Highly recommended.
