3. Greensboro
North Carolina’s Piedmont Triad is the most important place in the state this weekend, with a few of the biggest events of the year filling hotels and event spaces and injecting cash and culture to our cities. Unfortunately, none of these huge events take place in Greensboro, though there is a great entrepreneurship accelerator going on at Collab, which could give birth to the next great economic generator.
2. Winston-Salem
The Camel City is crushing it this weekend with both the RiverRun International Film Festival, which has become a jewel in the city’s crown, and also Phuzz Phest, the local music showcase that is more like a cool scar. Despite all the action, Winston-Salem is just the second most important city in the Triad this weekend.
1. High Point
The High Point International Home Furnishing Market is no small affair. It has the largest economic impact of any event in the state, it’s more than 100 years old and it’s pretty much the only reason High Point still exists. The biannual event generates $5.39 billion in economic activity, luring more than 75,000 designers, buyers, decorators and people who just love couches from all over the world. If you’ve never seen High Point during furniture market, then you haven’t really seen High Point at all.
