3. High Point
High Point always starts the week in the last position. They’re the smallest city in the Triad, by a lot. It’s largely owned and controlled by the outside interests of the biannual furniture market. And nobody with any authority seems to know how to get things going. But rest assured: High Point’s day will come.
2. Winston-Salem
The Camel City keeps grinding it out, with another big event right on the tail of last week’s RiverRun: the Winston-Salem Cycling Classic, with pro riders both foreign and domestic who will take over the city streets. A mild explosion in the Innovation Quarter pushes them into second place.
1. Greensboro
Maybe Greensboro isn’t having its greatest week of all time — one of the crackers from the 1979 Greensboro Massacre killed three innocent people in Kansas City this weekend, for example — but the weather’s nice, Elsewhere is open, the fireworks are booming over the city every weekend the Grasshoppers are in town. And let’s face it: Greensboro really needs a win right now.
