Put out a presser last week. In the name of transparency, I’ll post it here.

ALTERNATIVE NEWSPAPER LAUNCHES IN THE PIEDMONT TRIAD

To my friends here in the Triad and beyond:

I proudly announce the launch of Triad City Beat, my newest and most awesome project, which hit the streets for the first time last week in Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point, NC — the third, fifth and ninth largest cities in North Carolina.

We call it the Piedmont Triad. And I’ve been reporting on it since 2000.

I’ve got some old friends with me: Jordan Green and Eric Ginsburg, who make up the rest of the editorial team; Allen Broach, who has been involved in business and the arts in the Triad since the 1970s; Ellen Kern and Maria Recio, who handle the sales; and Jorge Maturino, our art director, who has done stints at Pace Communictaions and the Northwest Observer.

TCB, as we like to call it, has been open for about a week: Our website, triad-city-beat.com, has been rolling with breaking news, real reporting, mixed-media packages and cultural tidbits. But the paper will be our flagship.

We do news and investigative journalism, watchdog reporting and opinion based on reason and common sense — we do not wear a jersey for either team. We recognize that culture is what binds us, and vow to cover the theater and music scenes as aggressively as the cops and courts

But most importantly, we aim to document the growth and development of our cities, where culture is born and news happens.

Thanks to all who gave support in this project, and to those we know will become regular readers of the paper and the site.

And I’ll see you out there on the beat.
