On Saturday, close to 100 people gathered at the South Village Community Clubhouse in the Reedy Fork area of Greensboro to support Greensboro City Council candidate Cecile “CC” Crawford. Crawford is running for the District 2 seat, currently held by Goldie Wells, who is also running for re-election. Other candidates running for the seat include Portia Shipman and LaToya Bernice Gathers, both also Black women.
During the event, Crawford spoke about how she intends to address issues of the Reedy Fork community including a lack of healthy food options in the area as well as a lack of law enforcement presence. She mentioned that she supports alternatives to policing, but that the community isn’t getting their basic safety needs met.
Triad City Beat will be covering the Greensboro City Council District 2 race in the next coming weeks. Early voting for the primaries begins April 28 and ends on May 17. The general election for Greensboro city council races takes place on July 26 this year. Find other election reporting here.
