It’s press award season and so far, TCB is proud to say that we’re killing it.
In our very first year of membership as part of the NC Press Association, we have won THREE awards!
Big congratulations go to James Douglas for earning Second Place in Arts & Entertainment Reporting, about UNCSA’s film archive which readers can dig into here.
Douglas also took Third Place in Best Columns for his pieces for In the Weeds, a monthly dispatch from the service industry.
And huzzahs go to Sam LeBlanc, our new webmaster, who earned Third Place in General Excellence for Websites.
For awards with the Association for Alternative Newsmedia of AAN, TCB is a finalist in three categories.
Big congrats to EIC and publisher Brian Clarey, whose editorial column is up for an award in the political column category (Clarey won first place for that column in the same category in 2019).
Senior Editor Jordan Green’s story about Oath Keepers and the Jan. 6 insurrection is a finalist in the right-wing extremist category.
And lastly, Managing Editor Sayaka Matsuoka’s story about how people changed their minds about the vaccine is finalist in the Special Vaccine Coverage category!
The winners in each category will be announced at this year’s annual conference on Friday, July 22, at the Medill School of Journalism in downtown Chicago.
