Sounds of the Triad: Live music events for April

Our March roundup of live music events did so well, we decided to make this a regular thing! We’ve also included some more venues thanks to suggestions from our awesome readers, who make it possible to do the work we do. Take a look at what’s happening musically this month in the Triad, and follow the links for additional events and information.

GREENSBORO

Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts (300 N. Elm St.)

• Trio Zimbalist is recognized for its “precision and feverish intensity” and is composed of ​​violinist Josef Špaček, cellist Timotheos Gavriilidis-Petrin and pianist George Xiaoyuan Fu. Catch them on April 15 at 7:30 p.m. Buy tickets at tangercenter.com.
• On April 28 at 8 p.m., singer/songwriter and pianist Ben Folds performs a set of original songs.

Carolina Theatre (310 S. Greene St)

• The UNCG PopTech program is pleased to announce its first-ever end of year showcase concert featuring original works from students in UNCG’s popular music and technology program, including playback beats to videos. April 22 at 7:30 p.m.
• Unheard Project GSO, a collective of gospel, jazz, funk, rock, Latin, and R&B musicians teams up with singer/songwriter Maia Kamil for a one-of-a-kind collaboration April 29 at 8 p.m.

Center City Park (200 N. Elm St.)

• The Strange Fruit Music Festival, named after the controversial Billie Holiday song, features live music performances by local BIPOC artists, including a Nina Simone tribute by Yolanda Rabun. April 15 at 12 p.m. More information here.

Flat Iron (221 Summit Ave.)

• According to the website, Condado draws inspiration from the northeast emo and punk scenes through “distinct rhythmic focus/playfulness, punchy and driving percussion, thick guitar riffs and roaring bass lines.” They’ll be joined by rock bands Monsoon and Housewife April 16 at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30.
• Tumbao performs April 28 at 9 p.m. The Latin fusion band blends salsa, cumbia and other upbeat genres to create a high-energy mix suitable for any listener. They’ll be joined by Africa Unplugged and DJ Brydecisive. Doors open at 8. More info here.

HIGH POINT

Stock + Grain (275 N. Elm St.)

Ziggy’s, a Triad-based live music and events promoter, is pleased to announce a new collaboration with Stock + Grain to bring family-friendly live music performances each Wednesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. The project, called Ziggy’s Stages at Stock + Grain, creates two stages in the venue to entertain guests both indoors and outdoors. Shows include:

• James Vincent Carroll April 11 at 7 p.m. There’s no cover charge for this kickoff party!
• Zack Brock & Good Intentions April 14 at 8 p.m.
• Brother Pearl April 20 at 7 p.m.
• Pure Fiyah Reggae Band April 21 at 8 p.m.
• The Chain- Fleetwood Mac Tribute April 22 at 8 p.m.
• Litz April 28 at 8 p.m.

KERNERSVILLE

Gypsy Road Brewing Company (1105 E. Mountain St.)

• Old-fashioned country band Huckleberry Shyne makes their debut at Gypsy Road April 28 at 7 p.m. Visit their Facebook page for more information.

WINSTON-SALEM

SECCA (750 Marguerite Ave.) 

• SECCA’s House Hangs series elevates social gatherings with dinner by local chefs, music by local DJs and cocktails from SECCA. April 28 at 5 p.m. Find more information at secca.org.

The Ramkat (​​170 W. 9th St.)

• Winston-Salem musician Tyler Nail takes the stage with special guest Rainy Eyes April 12 at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7. More info here.
• According to their Instagram, Carolina Twine is a duo of “Stokes-grown country folk.” They’ll be at the Ramkat April 18 at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30.
• Vanessa Collier plans to keep it saxy April 22 at 8 p.m. The multi-instrumentalist shines on the saxophone creating funk, soul and rock sounds. Doors open at 7.

Monstercade (204 W. Acadia Ave.)

• Primordial Tides, Reflect//Refine, Death Nebula and Impersona are taking over April 16 at 9 p.m. Doors open at 8.
• This Charlotte showcase on April 23 at 9 p.m. includes Queen City-based bands American Theory and Seneca Burns. Doors open at 8.

Wise Man Brewing (826 Angelo Bros Ave.)

• National touring band Dangermuffin will join Wise Man Brewing for their Spring Jam April 15 at 3 p.m. According to the event page on Facebook, Dangermuffin has “consistently shattered all categorizations” from jamband to acoustic folk.
• Beast Night on April 28 at 8 p.m. includes three one-night-only bands, each paying tribute to an animal through covers of bands named after them. Chuck Folds performs a set of Three Dog Night classics, Kate Evans tackles Gov’t Mule’s discography Dan Dockery’s got a set of tunes by the Byrds up his sleeve.
