Happy Women’s Equality Day! In 1973, the US congress designated August 26 Women’s Equality Day, celebrating the history of women being granted the right to vote. On this day in 1920, the Nineteenth Amendment’s adoption was certified, prohibiting the United States from denying the right to vote to citizens of the United States on the basis of sex. One of the most well-known activists of the women’s suffrage movement was Susan B. Anthony, who was arrested for voting in Rochester, NY in 1872.
