People in my home state of Kentucky are every bit as fanatical about basketball as they are here on the famed tobacco road. When a politician like Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell uses a snippet of footage of University of Kentucky winning a championship in his campaign ad, it’s a way of saying, “I care about the people of this state, and I’m in tune with their passions.”
The only problem is that the team with the blue uniforms in the spot by filmmaker Lucas Baiano was Duke, not Kentucky (which takes on Michigan tomorrow for a spot in the Final Four).
Matt Bevin, McConnell’s primary challenger, has predictably capitalized on the flub.
