A house on Brentwood Street just south of Springfield Road in High Point was destroyed by fire this afternoon.
Three women who live across the street said two adolescent girls, who were in the house at the time, escaped without injury.
As the High Point Fire Department brought the blaze under control, Battalion Chief Russell Doane spoke with a woman who lived at the house.
A medic on the scene checked the wellbeing of one of the girls by asking her how many fingers she was holding up.
Doane said he did not know the cause of the fire.
