Jeff Golden, who represents Ward 1 on High Point City Council, said he will run for reelection.
Golden said he decided to seek reelection to the Ward 1 seat after making a work schedule adjustment to ensure that he had adequate time to serve on the council. He said his decision was also influenced by his sense that a number of contentious issues that have bedeviled the current council are unlikely to remain significant in the next couple years.
“There are a few more things I want to get accomplished,” he said, “like bringing resources here. We’ve made progress on Washington Street and bringing the sidewalk project to Cedrow [Drive].”
Golden is serving his first term as representative of Ward 1 on city council. Bernita Sims, who now serves as mayor, represented the ward before that. The ward covers the east-central portion of the city and flanks East Lexington Avenue and Greensboro Road, including the Washington Street and Five Points areas.
Filing for High Point City Council election opens on July 7.
