Owner in talks to sell CityView apartments

A rumor going around about CityView apartments in downtown Greensboro appears to be at least partially true.

Michele Liakos, president of Signature Property Group which owns CityView, confirmed that the company is in conversations to sell the apartment complex not far from the downtown depot.

“It has not gone through just now,” Liakos said earlier this month. “It’s in negotiations.”

Liakos said Signature Property Group CEO Frank Auman would be better suited to answer detailed questions about the negotiations and could provide the most updated information, but despite repeated attempts, Auman could not be reached.

Milton Kern, a partial owner of Signature Property Group, also directed comments to Auman.

“I know we talked about [selling] it but Frank Auman is the only one who can talk about it,” he said.

The rumor floating around about the potential sale is that the Carroll Companies, run by developer Roy Carroll, is in talks to buy the apartment complex. Liakos declined to comment on who Signature is in negotiations with, and could not be reached to provide any updates this week. A request for comment from the Carroll Companies was also not immediately returned this week.

CityView apartments range from $850 to $1,180 a month depending on the type and number of bedrooms and bathrooms, according to the company’s website, with the largest measuring 968 square feet and offering two bedrooms and two bathrooms.

If the Carroll Companies are actually the other party and the deal goes through, it would be part of a trend as the company expands its downtown residential holdings. Carroll renovated and built the Center Pointe condos adjacent to Center City Park and currently plans to erect luxury apartments and a hotel on North Eugene Street, across from the Grasshoppers baseball stadium. However, there is no firm indication or evidence that the Carroll Companies is involved with CityView.
