Tucked into this week’s Greensboro City Council agenda is a report on workplace safety violation incurred by the city at War Memorial Auditorium.

The occupational safety and health division of the state Department of Labor levied a $3,250 fine against the city on Jan. 15.

Following a series of inspections from Oct. 20 through Dec. 29, 2014, a district supervisor for the division found that that city “did not demarcate contaminated areas of the building to warn employees not to enter the area after a crew from outside went into the auditorium and removed asbestos containing pipe insulation from a 5-inch copper pipe and discarded it on the floor.”
