Downtown Winston-Salem restaurant Hutch & Harris unveiled its adjacent Side Bar last night, a connected space aimed more directly at the city’s nightlife.
The bar serves food from Hutch & Harris next door and also offers a raw bar from 5 – 11 p.m., complete with an additional drink menu. Most of the cocktails are the same as those offered in the original restaurant, but a bartender said that will change with time.
Among the drink offerings is the Mr. Hendrick’s Garden (left) with Hendrick’s gin, lemon twist and Bleu cheese wrapped in cucumber. Side Bar also has eight North Carolina beers and more than a dozen others available, in addition to a medium-length wine list.
Of the five specialty cocktails listed separately on the raw bar menu, three involve an oyster, including a $3 house oyster topped with local draft beer, a dash of Texas Pete and cocktail sauce.
The nautical-themed bar benefits from an open space with high ceilings and a long bar along the left side, complete with a counter top with what looks like colorful sea glass embedded into it.
Side Bar is still somewhat of a work in progress, and will rearrange furniture to make a lounge area in the back and make use of leftovers from a remodel of the existing bar at Hutch & Harris. The venue will also start hosting live music in the front right of the space soon, a bartender said.
