The lineup for Phuzz Phest 2015, Winston-Salem’s affordable underground rock festival, is out. Staged at various venues around Winston-Salem, the weekend-long festival runs from April 17 to April 19.

Notable headliners include Protomartyr, described as “Detroit garage rock warriors” (and featured here on “Sound Opinions”), Mac McCaughan of Superchunk, Athens, Ga. psych-country iconoclasts Futurebirds. Ex Hex makes a triumphal return after a well-received set last year. Other headliners include TransAm, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Blackbird Blackbird, Natalie Prass, Hamilton Leithauser and Foxygen.

Among a slew of Winston-Salem acts booked for the festival, veteran gentleman rocker Jeffrey Dean Foster has a critically acclaimed new album under his belt. Filling out the Winston-Salem roster are 1970s Film Stock, Cactus Black, Caleb Caudle, Echo Crush, Estrangers, Firekat, Foxture, the Genuine, Judy Barnes, Let Speak the Gods, Make Light, Must Be the Holy Ghost, Primovanhalen, Tyler Nail, Unfortunate Gentlemen, Vel Indica, Volunteer, Winston Facials and Wolves & Wolves & Wolves & Wolves.

Greensboro represents with Daddy Issues, Echo Courts, R Father, Totally Slow. Phuzz Phest favorites and Phuzz Records labelmates T0W3RS and the Tills, respectively from Raleigh and Asheville, return. The thriving Triangle scene also makes a showing with Blursome, Boulevards, Celestogramme, Dad & Dad, Eggy Strange, Field Spirit and the Human Eyes, while Asheville gets further traction with the Dead Tongues, Nest Egg and River Whyless

Out-of-town acts that worth checking out include Alex Cameron (Sydney, Australia), Free Clinic (Wilmington), the Gotobeds (Pittsburgh), Joy Classic (Baltimore), and Las Rosas (Brooklyn).
