Triad City Beat Editor in Chief Brian Clarey and Managing Editor Jordan Green spoke to students in Phoebe Zerwick‘s community journalism class at Wake Forest University today.
Zerwick is a former investigative reporter at the Winston-Salem Journal who reported and wrote a groundbreaking and celebrated eight-part series about Darryl Hunt, a black man who was convicted of murdering a white copy editor, and who was subsequently exonerated from DNA evidence and released from prison.
The community journalism class produces the excellent Heard It Here community news site about downtown Winston-Salem.
The editors from Triad City Beat talked about the business of independent community journalism and column writing, ending with a spirited discussion with the students about an article that Green wrote about racial tension on the campus of Wake Forest University.
