Wow, there is a whole lot going on tonight.

Winston-Salem:

Ahead of the second weekend of Winston-Salem Festival Ballet’s performance of Metropolis, Steve Childs premieres his documentary Dancing in Angel Shadows about Metropolis creator Gary Taylor. More here.

Also tonight, Fiddle & Bow presents two young duos, one with a Wake Forest participant, at the Community Arts Cafe. The other act is from New Zealand. Deets.

Greensboro:

At the Weatherspoon, check out a screening of documentary Food Patriots at 6:30 p.m. // Author Natalie Goldberg, author of Living Color: Painting, Writing, and the Bones of Seeing, is speaking at Scuppernong Books at 7 p.m. // Alternatively, the Greensboro College Opera/Musical Theatre Workshop hosts “An Evening of Nostalgia,” a dinner performance, in Lea Center on campus at 6 p.m. // Then at 8 p.m., GSO Fem Fest starts at Maya on Tate Street.

Politics:

On another end of the spectrum, the Guilford County Young Dems are hosting a candidate forum for Democrats running for Congressional District 12 (the seat vacated by Mel Watt after basically forever — this is a big deal). 6 p.m. at party headquarters (2300 W. Meadowview Ave). Not the sexiest thing happening tonight but probably the most important, and I’ll be there.

Or at 7 p.m., the Congregational UCC will screen the Bill Moyers documentary about North Carolina’s retrogressive slide.

The outlier, and maybe the winner:

And here’s an unusual one from Carolina BMW Motorcycles in Greensboro: “Join us for an evening with Rene Cormier, motorcycle adventurer and award-winning author of University of Gravel Roads. Rene shares stories of life on the road during his long, low-budget trip around the world on his 2003 BMW F650/GS Dakar motorcycle.” 7 p.m.
